For the past decade, Sarah has been about the work of transformation—witnessing God transform people and then send them out to change the world. She has an indefatigable belief in the power of people activated by God’s redemptive love.
Sarah was born in San Diego, raised on the central coast, and returned to the finest city for college at UCSD. God transformed her life through the community of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IV). Sarah joined Intervarsity staff and worked with nine college campuses across San Diego, watching God raise up amazing leaders for 10 years. It was through IV that Sarah met her husband BJ, rode a camel around the pyramids, and developed a passion for seeing communities transformed by the power of Christ.
Sarah went back to school to get her MBA through Bakke Graduate University, specifically to figure out how business can bring transformation to our cities and neighborhoods through jobs, small businesses, and entrepreneurship. She has used this training to develop UrbanLife Farms, creating job opportunities for urban youth, and expand the work of UrbanLife to Southeastern San Diego. Sarah, her husband and two sons live on a small urban farm in Southeast San Diego and raise goats, chickens, cats, dogs and various other living things.
Since Sarah stepped into the Executive Director role of UrbanLife in November 2014, it has been an exciting season of growth and increasing organizational stability for UrbanLife. Sarah loves leading this team of passionate staff, volunteers and community members into greater commitment and capacity to Christian Community Development through our missional communities of faith.
